The problem is that it cannot be completely worthless because even
something ("6 breaths") is better than nothing, even though having that
"blankie" may lead you to have false sense of security which promotes
its owner to accept higher risks.

This is the conclusion I came to awhile back. When you consider what
its true usefulness and capability is really worth in dollars, you're
going to get a number that's a less than its ~$200 retail price.
Probably a lot less: IMO, a Spare Air is worth no more than $50.

And insofar as what's "dangerous", how about the judgement of someone
who's willing to spend ~$200 to gain only ~$50 worth of capability?

I kind of agree with your valuation. I'd probably buy one I was sure was in
good condition, complete with the adapter to allow me to fill it from my
main tank, if I could get it for $50. I can tell you that, if I had had one
a couple years ago, I'd still have my favorite lobster snare. A spare air
would have made the difference between "do I head for the surface because
I'm out of gas" and "do I take a chance to recover an effective snare I lost
in the middle of a liveaboard hunting trip." I guess I should at $18 to the
value for the snare I might have saved. 8^)

You'd have to pay me a lot more than that to carry one.

I'll carry Jim's for him. You don't have to pay me anything.

Good point. Since I'm now a member of a union once again, I guess I'll have
to be more careful. Imagine that, the National Treasury Employee's Union.
Who'd have thought.

Does this mean you get a ten minute coffee break during Inquisitions?
