We are pretty easy going around here and tend to judge a agency by it's divers it trained. PADI's divers speak for themselves. Whether it's because of volume aka you have to have a few bad apples in ever y batch, large batch high number of bad apples. As for GUE a lot of "want a be" tech divers pose as such but do not carry their card. And can be seen around here fully decked out on open water shore dives with max depths of less than 50 ft (over kill big time) The GUE shop around here had an interesting way of putting it (not an exact quote, nor with permission) "You can buy / read about DIR doesn't make you DIR" So far I have found that to be true. I would add from a reputable instructor with years of proven experience is the way to go.(as well as accident free) For now a PADI cert is simply a red flag whether it be lower entrance standards or training starts who knows. Or more aggressive advertising, so they get more than their lion's share of the loons? Other agencies you can relax more, it seems the only thing missing is experience. Once a new diver spends some time around us and gets squared away who cares what sport agency he carries as long as he does say he's PADI in public. Side note: generally we flip him another card after he jumps through a few hoops so to save the embarrassment, just in case he gets asked for a card. The only disturbing thing about PADI is the lack of basic background, risk and rescue knowledge at the basic level. But this has been hashed out here before and what it boils down to is different water needs different training approaches, one fits all doesn't apply. That's a problem that PADI and GUE shares. How you solve it, is the million dollar question. Would I go GUE? Well for now that's like asking if I would wear a PADI General Jacket or Airhog's fuck me pumps and red dress. The PADI cert would get more laughs, the GUE cert would be up in the air. I do have some pride left so for now the answer is no. I have just about every cert NAUI, ACUC and TDI put out. GUE will have to prove it self around here before I buy in. I have access to a few boats plus my own, so there's really no reason other than new wreck sites. As for the tech guys I dive with, they are put off by the poor behaviour and performance of the self trained DIR group around here. THOSE WHO CALL THEMSELVES GUE, YOU NOT GUE TIL YOU CARRY THEIR CARD. WHAT YOU ARE IS A CLUSTER FUCK AND AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. No one wants your death on their hands nor take the chance of you trying to take them with you. You are a liability not an asset. Know your place and learn from there. ok i'll get off my soap box now. Steve |

You missed some gems..Exspecially of him insulting Kimber --who was not posting in here at the time--the first time he did that he became my personal target. I have offered to come see him--I have offered to fly him down here and "meet" me for lunch--all at my own expense to shut him up--I offered to wire the money to a third party--I have offered to drive and meet him halfway. He asked me directly for a death threat--I gave him one. So he still attacks the personal appearance of myself and mine. Of course if he had a wide angle lens he could take a shot of his old lady's ass for us to see it..... AirHog |

| You're right. I'm not as creative or as interesting as you! I wasn't sure that my posts got through (because of a problem with my ISP), but I'm glad to keep you entertained. Maybe I've got it wrong, but I think things may have gone in both directions. I seem to recall being told that Halcyon copied somebody else's plate design, right down to the one inch slot that they put a two inch crotch strap through. Even if that's not the case, everybody currently making a metal plate is using ideas that predate the jacket style BCD. Lee |
