Default Mask strap breakage

Does anyone have any suggestions on which mask straps are prone to
last the longest? Do you think black versus clear makes a difference?
I am having quite a time with the masks that are used around my
pool--the straps break way too frequently. I'm not opposed to paying
more to get a quality product.

Thanks,

Boris

Since you didn't say which straps you are having trouble
with, I am going to guess that they are the rubber ones.
Rubber doesn't get along well with chlorine and sun and will
degrade over time and exposure. The clear ones are either
made with a material called Kraton (a soft plastic) or
silicone. While both will discolor under the sun they
aren't affected by chlorine.

One other thought, if the masks are rubber as well, they are
most likely deteriorating like the straps and will
eventually fail as well.

Just my $.02

A coupld points -- appologies if they are obvious to you.

(1) Pool chemicals are hard on plastic (and most everything else).
Rinse the masks after each use.

(2) Direct sunlight is also hard on plastic. Try to store the masks
in a shady spot when not in use.

BTW, how frequently is too frequently?

At the summer camp I volunteer at, they use armor all on the rubber parts
(mostly cheap fins)... don't know if its a good idea on the silicone...

Lose the rubber/silicone and get a "slap-strap"
http://www.scubatoys.com/store/detai...RODUCT_ID=RP22 (URL not of the
site, but of the item)

They last a lot longer.

I have used mask for 15+ years - pool - ocean -lakes - I never had one
break - but you might check out the cloth type straps that are available
