| Konnichiwa, I want to see and buy a wet suit and maybe some other gear, but I can't find any good shops. My Japanese level is low/middle, but I can deal with a Nihongo-only shop as long as it's face-to-face. The only shop that I have found so far is Air One (I think) near Tokyu Hands in Yokohama. The prices looked OK, but the selection was very small. Does anyone know of shops with decent prices and a big selection (Kanakgawa-ken or Tokyo)? Web shopping is still difficult for me as I don't have the experience to know what to expect from the many types of gear, so I'd prefer a shop with gear I can touch and try on. The prices looked OK, but the selection was very small. Pick up a copy of Marine Diving or Diver magazine. They have a ton of shops in there. Many discount shops have full page ads. You won't find foreigner size wetsuits here in Tokyo, though, but most dive shops will gladly measure you for a custom suit. Prices can be expensive, though, as most use Yamamoto neoprene and everything is hand made. > Does anyone know of shops with decent prices and a big selection > (Kanakgawa-ken or Tokyo)? Send me an e-mail (sorry, I can't send a courtesy copy because the mail server doesn't accept outside connections and I am posting via broadband) and we'll get in touch. Scott already posted the URL to my web site. Thanks, Scott! Disclaimer: I dive Scott's AWESOME dogbone plate. It's really a great piece of American craftsmanship and quality, the kind we hardly see anymore. (Sound of my waving an American flag...) -- Matt matt@gol.com |

It *looks* like they have a physical store somewhere, but finding a reference is taking long enough that it looks like they don't want people to come. Strange. Greg, thanks for the followup, or I would never have known it got posted. > > We also have a showroom in Aoyama with the latest whiz bang DIR gear... > > So the DIR gear is just for show, or do you drink apple juice at your long > Irish pub sessions? We only drink the finest Irish brew, Kilkenny, a sweet red nectar that could be compared to apple juice. As ye probably know, the only way to gain converts is to have them breathe the long hose and baptize them in water...that's why getting people into the ocean with the holy robes of DIR gear (remember the good old days when we used to call it Hog) is the first and foremost concern. Most of the flashy display of gear in the retail shop is only an alter to kneel before. I'm working to import some Kool-Aid into Japan...not Flavor-Aide http://www.cs.uu.nl/wais/html/na-dir...l-aid-faq.html Like I said before, the real work is done at the pub trying to get people to accept the mindset and the philosophy of DIR. -- Matt matt@gol.com |
