Most agonizing "feature" on these computers is when it locks you out for
a variety of offenses, such as too rapid ascent, etc.

Given the age, I did not. I had the sense I would have just been given
a bad upgrade offer, and I had already moved on to the Suunto. I probably
should have given it a shot, though.

Probably could still return it, I would send it back directly to the
factory, with a letter to the QA Manager or similar, stating the problem
and why it would be so dangerous and such a liability to use such a
"defective" item.

That's not a lockout... it just makes you hang on the surface a bit
longer or it shortens the available BT on the repetitive dive.

It does the same thing if you blow off a safety stop.

It only locks you out of you blow off a mandatory deco stop.

Nope, he was completely locked out for 24 hours.

I have never been locked out on my Cobra. I just get a little warning
signal that suggests I take a longer than normal surface interval.

I am not doing deco diving though...maybe that is the difference.
