| I am looking for a computer to replace my Suunto Eon and have narrowed it down to the Cobra or Wisdom. Any pros or cons to either? Any other I should consider? Thanks! Bob Denton Gulf Stream International Delray Beach, Florida www.sinkthestink.com Manufacturers of Sink the Stink |

I haven't even had to change the battery yet. If I had to complain, it would be on the price of the computer interface cable, at $279.95CDN dollars around here (for a cable???). A local dive shop went around that problem by renting it, which I do twice a year. Another thing I wonder about is the "no fly time" that the computer penalize you with; It's about twice the amount of time compared to a Uwatec comp, and I'm wondering if it's really necessary (I had to cancel my last dive in Cuba last year, which was a bummer). Overall I feel the Cobra is a well designed, reliable, easy to use and tough piece of equipement. -- Martin. "The known is finite, The unknown infinite" T.H.Huxley |

Does it appear more conservative than computers used by other divers you have dived with? My own experience comparing with Uwatec aladin comp was that The Cobra was more conservative for square diving, less for multilevel (if you mean by conservative the amount of deco time you are penalized with). But I've never made any serious research on the subject and my own observation are based only on about 30 dives I've made with European diver (European seems to favor the aladin over any other). My regular diving buddies dive with either the Vyper or Cobra; And I feel it's more important to match your regular than a minute or two of deco time. One thing though is, at the risk of repeating myself, is the really really high "no fly" time. I'm gonna try to contact Suunto about this before my next trip; The cobra showing 37 hours "no fly" while the Aladin, that went trough the same dive profile, showed only 17 "no fly" hours is, to put it mildly, weird (Some would argue that it's safer, but so would staying home and in bed:)). -- Martin. While I have never pushed the limits while diving, a dive trip on the Nekton with multiple dives everyday never caused a problem - one day was six dives starting with a dawn dive at over 100'. My aqualand when into error mode but never the Cobra. Had I been diving on tables I would gave been done after two dives. |

I haven't said there was a "problem", all I said was that the no fly time after a week of diving was veeeeeeeeeeeery looooooooooooooooooooong compared to other computers. Cheers. -- Martin. | You're right on the suunto no fly times. They are almost as long as the complete desat time on a uwatec computer. Nothing you can do about it (except buying a uwatec) MCL wrote: > In news:3F436424.8030500@accessus.net, Joe English deftly typed: > >>I have never had any problem with the no fly on the cobra. Well I prefer being safe, and my suunto alwas has had shorter no fly time that the DAN recomendations anyhow... Using the DAN recomendations is for me a minumum... / Balp -- http://anders.arnholm.nu/ Keep on Balping |

Anyhow, I've made something similar, right down to the printed circuit board, from blueprint I got from the internet. I was looking for a connector for the suunto when I met a guy in a dive shop who've made one and fucked up his dive computer with it; Costed him $350.00 to have his Vyper fixed. I still have the printed circuit board on my desk, maybe when the time come to replace the Cobra, I'll give it a try just for the heck of it. This thing might work ok, but I'm not taking the chance, especially since I can now rent the unit for $15.00 and split the cost 3 ways. But thank's anyhow. -- Martin.
