Default Question: Dive Computer Maintenance/Care
Hi,
I just recently got a dive computer, Mares M1 RGBM. I haven't used it
yet. Apart from rinsing in fresh water and drying out, is there any
other special care that should be taken?

That's all I've ever done to any of my computers, and all of them (including a
12 year old Suunto) still work as new. Other than changing batteries when
needed, computers are essentially maintenance free.

I suggest getting a lens cover or just putting a piece of clear tape over
the lens to protect it from scratches. Other than rinsing and drying,
nothing else.

Not a bad idea, but remember that you can't see scratches underwater ;)

Whack it with a hammer at least once a month; keeps it loosened up.

screwdriver to accomplish this task. 1/4 turn (counter-clockwise) on all

It isn't about the scratches underwater. I laid out some money for my
Suunto Stinger. I want to take care of it. It still looks fairly new with
around 50 dives on it. Crystal replacements are cheap. Had one replaced on
a Citizen watch. $50 including the labor.
