| I sent a lot of my "tec" equipment back from a recent Florida trip back home by UPS. UPS lost the shipment. I sent it from a UPS store that charged 3X the rate for insurance that UPS charges so I didnt buy the insurance. They did package the items. I guess not well enough! Seems the UPS store has nothing to do with UPS and they can charge whatever they want. I am out a significant amount of money now and will not be able to dive for a while. I was wondering if anybody has lost dive gear on UPS shipments and if they had any recourse? |

Man did you pick a sore bone to pick at. I am out about $2.5K worth of lost gear to UPS, which people paid for and I had to not only kiss off the original, but replace it, have had claims on file for going on two years, with no resolution, and I will never use them again. Absolutely do not use them going to Canada! Sorry to hear of your troubles. Scott |

I won't ship to Canada at all. I've had too many things go into a black hole on their side of the border. Several times I managed to trace a shipment to their customs office - where it was just plain sitting. Now its one thing if there's some kind of problem or question, but then there's some kind of action on resolving it, right? No - these are just instances where the government employees have just stuck the box on a shelf and ignored it until someone screamed. Sometimes you can shake it loose, sometimes not. My solution is simply not to ship to Canada at all, irrespective of the carrier. -- -- Karl Denninger (karl@denninger.net) Internet Consultant & Kids Rights Activist http://www.denninger.net Tired of spam at your company? No. My favorite line with UPS was when our regular driver returned after the strike (the strike that cost me several hundred dollars in increased FedEx fees) and said, "I was on strike so I could serve you better." For some reason, I didn't quite agree with him. Alan |

I finally got my computer after 2 months. yep. it took that long. The UPS store, which is an offshoot of Mail Boxes ETC charges the most overpriced rates around. They charge for the "convience" of shipping with them. I about had a heart attack the last time i tried to ship something with them and they told me the rate. If I hadn't been in such a time crunch I would have definately gone somewhere else. I don't use them anymore, but go direct to UPS truck center which is open 4pm-6pm where i live to receive packages. They are much better. |

I can't speak to shipping to Canada, but my experiences with domestic UPS shipments have been overwhelmingly negative. They lose stuff and break stuff and they just don't care. I've never heard of a UPS damage claim that was paid without major hassle. (The usual counter person at my local depot (before I gave up on them) was also a complete asshole, but that at least is a local problem.) Fedex Ground, on the other hand, has been cheaper, faster, friendlier, *much* less likely to lose or damage stuff, and willing to instantly pay a claim the one time it was required. UPS bad. Fedex Ground good. |

| andrew m. boardman warns: >>I've never heard of a UPS damage claim that was paid without major hassle. << Then I guess I'm lucky I've never had a bad experience with UPS in decades of using UPS from both sides, shipping and receiving. |
