I would appreciate comments from the peanut gallery on the relative merits
of the above 2 lights. I have seen the first one in action and I was MIGHTY
IMPRESSED.

No, I will not be buying it from Leisure Pro. They ship by UPS (ugh) which
results in a huge brokerage fee for customs services. I use the Leisure Pro

I have been using the Light Cannon 100 for about two years now. It is an
excellent light. You might want to consider buying the rechargeable battery
pack as well ($90.00).

Yes, I was thinking along the same lines. I would also pick up a spare bulb
for it as well. Murphy's Law says that I will never need it, provided I have
a spare on hand. The minute I lose it, the one in the Light Cannon will crap
out. So far, everyone has said that the Light Cannon is better.

I have seen both in use.
The hid is a hid.
I use canister lights 20 watt seems to be enough.(OMS)
10 watt doesn't do it for me (Dive-Rite Wreck Light).
I use to run 30 watt, I do miss it. @ 50 cdn I’ll wait till this one
burns out and go back to 30 watts.
The burn time is a bit dodgy 45 min to the second with a 30 watt.
I need two hours of burn time on a main light.
I use a Dive-Rite Wreck Light for a second main with two 3C saber
lights for back up.
Hids are brighter and run longer on less power.
The hid guys have my attention, it's just the cost.
If I go hid I could ditch both can lights.

The rechargeable is nice.
But rechargeable batteries and smart chargers are cheap, you may want
to buy else where. (watch the amp hours on the bats)
For so so lighting inside a wreck 20 watt seems enough, once the silt
comes up the back scatter cuts the useful light any way.

Now if sun tanning is your goal.
Hid is the way to go.
Or better yet hold off and go canister hid.

Beware that deposable batteries don't last long and can really add up.
Remember with disposables you should be checking them with a meter
before each dive.
Where the light would be needed, then there should also be a back
up.(3C)

It all comes down to how much are you going to use it.
Just looking around a minute here and there.
Or on for most of the dive.

If you thinking tech save your coin for a canister, a hand held is
almost useless.

The other thing is to check the cost of bulbs.

If recharging, a intelligent charger is the way to go.

My OMS is up in 20 minutes most times.
Most tech dives your sit is at least 2 hours which from dead it would
be good to go in less than 2 hrs.
The Dive Rite is about 12 hrs from dead.
I use an 75 watt inverter, so I can charge on the fly (car or boat).
No testing or wondering, the idiot lights tell you exactly what's
going on.(OMS)
And no fear over charging or boiling your battery.
The reverse is true of the Dive Rite, but you get what you pay for.
The OMS was about 800 cdn and the DR was about 400 cdn at the time.
Hids where not available at the time.

The Light Cannon is going to be significantly brighter and more white... but
the bulbs break with relative ease and cost upwards of $80 to replace. I'd
probably go with the Shockwave.... 20 watts is not bad, and the
rechargeables are super nice.

Rudy,

$150 seems rather expensive for any hand-held halogen light to me.
Also there's no comparison between a 20W halogen light and 10W HID as
far as amount and quality of light. If those are the 2 choices, to me
it's no contest. I'd go with the Light Cannon.

Its not even a contest. Go for the Canon. It is a far better and brighter
light. If you are interested in rechargeable, I can give you a URL and email
address of an outfit that fabricated a NimH rechargeable pack for me for
close to nothing for my Canon. It uses 4500 mah cells that last forever. I
get easily more than 2.5 hours of burn time from them.
