Using titanium first stages with pure O2 would be a *very* bad idea - my
advice would be to not use a titanium first stage with any nitrox mix above
40%!!!! Titanium and high O2 mixes do not mix very well at all...

Right, I understand that it has a nasty habit of burning at a very high rate
of combustion. I would get a new reg for pure O2 of course. I realized
after I hit send that I sort of suggested stupid thinking there and I do
know better--than to use Pure O2 with this reg and than to hit send before
reading what I have written.

If Mares had said no to using the regulator with nitrox, I'd be more likely
to agree.

DANGER
MARES regulators and octopus are designed and intended for use only with
clean, compressed atmospheric air. Do not
use this equipment with any other gas or enriched air.
Failure to adhere to this warning may result in serious injury or death
due to fire and explosion or the serious deterioration
or failure of the equipment.

That came from the proton manual and it's also in the ruby manual
as well as Abyss.

They have the same warning for all their regulators.
It's meaningless except for stating that MARES is run
chickenshit lawyers.

AFAICT, the Abyss 1st is not Ti. It is Ti coated brass.
In that case, it shouldn't matter at all.

safe diving,

Thanks, that is what I thought.

Of course the lawyers look out for the company interests. With the
disclaimers they put in they can avoid a lot of suits because someone gets
hurt while diving. Of course there are laws in the US that don't allow a
complete escape from suits. And after all, our survivors get their own
lawyers and find the ways to make it stick. They get a big settlement and
keep almost all of it then you -- ehm, your survivors--- get to pay the
legal costs out of the remainder. They will end up with the cost of a new
regulator-- that you no longer need-- for the effort. Probably the one that
failed to begin with.

Ok, I usually try not to let too much of my cynicism escape into this forum
but sometimes it just seems worthwhile.

Have a good holiday all

Brian

Since the Titanium Abyss is just Titanium Coated on the exterior no problem
the TI Planet is made totally of titanium that¹s more concern.
