Default Now a couple question on Cummerbund extenders.

Okay, after the last debate I started, I hesitate to ask this, but what the
hell. After extensive pooldives with an extensive array of BC's, some
previously mentioned here, I'v decided to purchase the IDI Advantage. The
dive shop I usually buy from has it with cummerbund extender for $450.00.
After looking online, I've found it for as low as $289.00
(www.jodiveramerica.com anybody got any bad input about that site?) Only
problem, no knowledge of that p[articualr online shop, and it doesn't come
with a cummerbund extender.

So what I need to know is, where can i get a cummerbund extender for it.
Don't want to go to my local dive shop owner, as I do alot of business with
him, and I do NOT want to admit I bought a peice of gear from an online
competitor, but that I still want to buy a cheaper peice of equipment from
him. He's cut me solid deals before, but this kind of markup is a bit much.
And I really would hate to alienate him.

Any ideas, links?

Well, the first thing to keep in mind is that he's going to find out
anyway. $161 is a lot of money, but maybe he'll meet you halfway. Also,
don't be surprised to learn that the cummerbund extender is probably $40
or $50 by itself (I have no first hand experience with these so I'm just
pulling numbers out of the air, but knowing what dive gear costs, I
don't think the number is unreasonable), so that $161 differential is
probably more like $110~$120.

There's been lots of arguments for and against shopping on-line/mail
order. I don't know if you've read any of these threads, but if you
haven't it's worth your time to do so. Ultimately, it will come down to
what it's worth to you to support your local LDS. For some, it's worth
very little while for others it's very important. Regardless, the least
you can do is give your LDS a shot at coming close to the mail order
price. They won't match it, but they might be able to throw in other
goodies (such as an air card) that might make it worth your while.

But it doesn't bother you a bit to put him out of business. It is people
like you who force local small business' down the tubes. Pardon me for
going off on you, but I am one of those local small business' and get
crapped on like that every day. That LDS let you try on HOW MANY BC's
before you went bargain hunting. Let me know who this LDS is and I will
make sure you never get to try out another piece of gear.

Check on S&H and ask www.joediveramerica.com about a bigger cummerbund,
extender, etc. Once you know the bottom line, consider giving your LDS the
opportunity to match the price.
That it's an online price is on a need to know basis.

What's the front pocket for? Exta doughnuts?

I get it you think it looks cool, only to a newbie.

Get a Zeagle if you want a soft back at least it will last.

Better yet get a plate and save some cash.

Then add the unneed crap on.

Happy Trails, chuch wagon Pete.

Get along little doggie...

So what was your New Year's Resolution? To write in English, make sense
and actually have something resembling good advice? The doughnut crack
was especially good. Almost cost me a monitor.

Congratulations. So far, so good.

Nice rant. But you see, the problem is, it's my money, and I'm going to make
it go a far a I can. Granted, I wish to postpone my LDS finding out I
didn't purchase my equipment from him, but he will eventually find out. We
are after all, members of the same dive club. And anyone in business should
know and expect that if they cannot offer an item for a fair price, that
peole can and will look for the better deal. I understand that in business,
sometimes overhead cuts down on any discount you might offer, but like I
said, it boils down to my hard earned cash, and I stretch it as far as I
can. Nobody, and that includes you, has the right to tell me how or where to
spend my cash. You earn that right, you earn it with selection, service,
knowledge, curteousy, and pricing. Those things breed loyalty. In this
instance, the price weighs out all other options. This isn't exactly a cheap
peice of gear to concider.

It was generally understood when I was testing his gear that I was looking
for what worked and fit. Some of the gear I tried on was rental gear that he
doesnt even carry. Hell, he said he justed wanted to see people in BC's that
fit right and worked right, which was why I was trying gear he didn't even
sell. I just don't wish to slight him by asking him to order the cheaper
peice.

Well.

You get crapped on for selling Quatts for $150 when Dive Inn has them for
$55, your shop is full of shit I don't need (like those whistles what have a
thermometer on one side, and a compass on the other), and little that I do
(like two inch webbing or tri-glides, or helium), and you don't know as much
about diving as me.
Your pimple faced snot jockey sales clerk tries to sell everybody split fins
and trips to Bonaire, and thinks he's Cousteau because he has a Transpack that
endangers his (expendable) life. If it wasn't for an air compressor, (the
prices of which are becoming much more comfortable), you'd be the fryalator
tech at BK.

>Let me know who this LDS is and I will make sure you never get to try out

another piece of gear.

Why don't you let us know where your dive shop is, and we'll see that you
never sell another peice of gear.

What John does not seem to understand is that everybody has some overhead.
The trick is to balance overhead and business volume. Most internet scuba
retailers I know of have a physical sales facility as well and all of them
that last have return policies that would give most local retailers the
shakes. They add their internet and phone business to their face to face
business to spread overhead over a larger sales volume, which is exactly how
they manage to offer prices below what people like John find easy to match.

Darwinism applies to business even more than it does to people.
