Probably sold too good a product at too low a price.
Sorry to hear they might be doing badly, glad I got a great price on a
camera that, to my inexpert skills, appears outstanding!

S&S had too many models that didn't make sense from a cost perspective.
The MX-10 was too pricy for the limited improvement it offered over simple
cheap models like the Aquashot or the Reefmaster.

The MX-5 was priced the same as the Aquashot, but with no strobe option until
the attemped MX-5-II. It was a triumph of the marketing department over
engineering. Cute, but useless.

The MX-II line was priced too close to Nikonos, and was inferior. It was
also about the same price as a good digital setup, which has been the bulk of sales
for more casual UW photographers in recent years.

Last, the S&S digital option offered nothing special over the cameras + housings
from Canon or Olympus which had been around longer. With the rapid turnover of
new and better models from the camera makers, why go with a non make? It's just
someone's OEM.

Sea and Sea Japan is alive and well, I'll see Mr. Yamaguchi, the
present, today at the Diving Festival in Tokyo.

Sea and Sea USA which was in California, has closed down and Tabata USA
(TUSA) is now in charge of their after sales service.

Hope this sets the record straight,

Thanks for the info.
What, if any, impact will this change have on the availability of lenses,
strobes, parts etc?

Sorry, to correct my previous post, I meant President. But I didn't get
to see him, although I talked to one of my friends at the booth who is
now an employee.

This will just mean that your local USA dealer will be getting stuff
from Sea and Sea Japan instead, and warrantee repairs that can't be
serviced by your local S&S dealer will get sent to TUSA.

Your dealer should probably have this information.

Default Sea and Sea MX-10 DID NOT honor warranty on manufacturing defect

But Sea & Sea's UW camera is not alive nor well -- specifically, my
latest MX-10 (2002) which lasted all of ONE liveaboard dive trip,
within 60 days of the purchase, where MOISTURE (no water leak, mind
you) resulted in damage that required (according to the authorized
service
center in the USA) $270 USD to repair, which cost about the same or
more than buying a new one. It was obviously a MANUFACTURING defect.

I've used an MX-10 from 1992 to 2001 when the camera was stolen with
the rest of my luggage -- so it wasn't exactly a case of a newbie user
of the MX-10 not knowing how to grease the seal or take care of the
camera properly.

All this was carefully explained to the "technician" at the service
center, to no avail.

So, I told him to smash the camera with the biggest HAMMER he could
find, and not bother to mail me back that POS.

I don't know if he followed my instructions, but I did not get the
camera back.

I now have a nearly new (used one week, the same week of the MX-10)
strobe that I'll sell for $20 (or offer) postage paid by purchaser.

Matt, you know me.

Send a copy of this to Mr. Yamaguchi. Perhaps he SHOULD know how
his "technician" in the USA was handling his customers and his
manufacturing defects.

Feesh, can you send me the complete details, and the story from the
beginning via e-mail.

Thanks,

What they show is that in good conditions (none to few particles in the
water) you get acceptable results, [and have fun] and that is good.

They also show that
{images/Small_Key_Largo_7_03/100_1477.jpg}{mages/Small_Key_Largo_7_03/10
0_1490.jpg} it is not a good setup in less than ideal conditions.

Here si the url I bought it from. They are an awesome
customer-service company that got it to me fast! It works excellent
and is quite durable too. I bought a second to keep handy for a
second camera.
