| I'd like to replace my current halogen u/w video lights with HID lights. My preference is for a canister HID light setup that I can use for both shooting u/w video and also for general dive lighting when not shooting video (in other words the lamp heads can be detached from the arms). Also, what size HID wattage is most versatile as an u/w video light and also as a general dive light? Not sure but are the bulb wattages interchangable? If so could I use a 18w while shooting a video and then a 50w on a night dive when I didn't want to shoot video but wanted to light up the reef? Any and all recommendations appreciated. |

| we use either 10w or 18w Dive Rite HID lights to shoot commercial video (primarily cave work). No problems with the lights at all (we have a total of eight between four people and not one has flooded). We have found a slight diffuser spreads the light a bit better. The same lights are then used as a primary dive light. You do NOT want a 50w HID!!! (think Hollywood movie premiere spotlights). A 10w works fine and can do both jobs you want most likely. Some makes do have wet connects to switch heads even underwater but we decided the additional cost and added failure point were not worth it. I use Halcyon 2X24W HID for video and 18W HID for a general light, all on EO connectors so I can switch them around. My buddy uses 2X50W HID (Halcyon) with custom made battery packs mounted on his housing. The 18 and 24's are the same bulb. The 50 is not. Go to the website noted in my sig and you can see the examples of the stuff we shoot there. Most of it is with the 50s but some is done with the 24's. My buddy uses 50W HID and his video is great. I concur! The videos you guys put up are the best I have ever seen. | Amphibico has a nice light ( one hour burn time ) comes complete with arm and a handle so tht you can convert the light to a handlight when needed..... On a full charge, burn time is about an hour or so...jere s the link to it http://www.amphibico.com/products.asp?O=0003RR&C=2&CS={B2090FB0-AAD0-41CC-8989-2F6E30C3D799} And no, I do not work for them....I have been using their stuff for about 2 yers now and I am very happy with my setup and its performance.
