| I also bought a pair of split fins and dove them in a lake. They seemed ok and easy on the legs. I tried them in the heavy current of the Detroit river and I gave them to my wife when I got home. My 10 year old Reflex fins non-split fin are great for me. If there was any valid argument for this you would find that the airline companies of the world would have one set of planes designed to fly in jet streams and when it was windy and one set for non windy days. They don't. Air speeds for a given setting remain constant and only ground speed is affected. My relative position to other divers in on-shore, slack then off shore currents remains the same and I have had no trouble catching most of them if need be. Since I'm 30- 40 years older than most of them, I give some of the credit to the fins. |

Since I'm 30- 40 years older than most of them, I give some of the > credit to the fins. > Split fins suck in currents in MY OPINION. I have dove them both and will not dive in currents with split fins. When I kick hard and fast because I'm caught in a heavy current with zero vis, there is a reason. Split fins do not provide me with power I want. In a calm lake they are easy on the legs and that is why my wife loves them. |

| Don't kick like standard fins. You can out kick them and go no where. I've Scubapro Twin Jets and love them for teaching and sport diving. But use standard fins for cavern and cave (frog kick). If you get used to splits for awhile, standard fins will fell like they slip and you might cramp until you re-aclimate. So the answer to your question is: Form, Fit, Function...
