| Just bought a new set of split fins, all pretty out of the box, tried them out and they seem a bit slow... Is this normal? |

Is this normal? Yep. Also depends upon whom you ask; Some still think the Emperor is clothed. |

I felt the same way, until I checked the actual time/speed. We did a course with both types and the split fins were noticeably faster when we timed them. Because of the lack of resistance they seem to not be as effective but it's misleading. |

They couldn't get any of us to use them. Sorry, I just couldn't resist. The tests seem to indicate that they give you the impression that they're not working well when they are, in fact, propelling you at a greater speed than other fin designs. I can't say from personal experience, but I'd check my speed against something known before I worried about it much. Lee |

I've seen the rep for a company that makes split fins have people do this test in a pool. Try it again, and count your fin cycles. It is just like the difference between going 100 ft in first gear and in fourth gear. Try the split fins against the falling tide in the Cooper River. When I lived in NJ, every year a football player named Beasley Reese raced a short distance against a thoroughbred race horse, and won every year. |
