This does require some muscle fitness - going low cadence at a high gear ratio is an anaerobic activity and is not sustainable. I think we have a differenet understanding of how slow is slow. If it is not sustainable then either: (1) you're going too fast; slow down, or (2) your level of fitness is entierly too low for SCUBA diving activity.
