I don't have any inside knowledge but I wouldn't doubt that they had
complaints about it. I had one and loved the convenience, but it was too
easy for the latch to come undone -- just a bump would do it -- I nearly
lost it once and then actually did lose it with no warning. I had to enlist
the help of two buddies to hold me down so that I wouldn't rocket to the
surface. Everything else about the belt was super so if they could make
that latch fail-safe, I would buy another one in a minute.

I've not experienced this myself but my friend who used it felt the same way as you--that
the latch could come undone. If that's the case they probably had complaints from others
and dicontinued it. I emailed Seaquest so I hope to find the real answer.

Ironically I liked this design because with the traditional buckle you have to undo it to
tighten and risk having the belt slide off.
