You do need to take a nitrox course. The PO2 is the fraction of O2 in the mix times the depth in ATA. At the surface (1 ata) breathing normal air (FO2 0.21) the PPO2 is 1.0 x 0.21 = 0.21 If you are breathing a 40% mix at the surface it is 1.0 x 0.40 = 0.40 At 33 fsw (2 ata) on normal air it is 2.0 x 0.21 = 0.42 At 33 fsw on 40% nitrox it is 2.0 x 0.40 = 0.80 |

| Hello, When setting the suunto stinger in Nitrox mode, is it needed to enter just the percentage of O2 or also the value of PO2 ( partial pressure O2) ? if so, why is it needed to enter also the partial pressure of O2 ? isnt it related to the depth? if so couldnt it be calculated according to the depth ? Do also other dive computers require entering the partial pressure of O2 ? also the aladin does ? What about the dive alarm max depth, do you also set the max depth alarm to the max depth of the entered % of Oxygen ? Please feel free to give me your comments and recommendations in the use of the stinger for Nitrox diving. Thanks, Mario |

Learn to dive with a bottom timer. 2. Sell stinger on eBay. 3. Buy bottom timer. 4. Go diving. My point exactly. Some guys that need to compensate buy hot cars, others may buy a fancy dive computer that doubles as a watch. |

| interesting none of your answers clearly answer my question, I hope there is some one that can seriously explain me the use of setting the PO2 from 1.2 upto 1.6 thanks > chilly wrote: > > "Michael Wolf" <michael.wolf@advalvasstopspam.be> wrote in message > > news:410f4408$0$31488$ba620e4c@news.skynet.be... > > > >> > >>chilly wrote: > >> > >> > >>>"Michael Wolf" <michael.wolf@advalvasstopspam.be> wrote in message > >>>news:410f3f97$0$31488$ba620e4c@news.skynet.be.. . > >>> > >>> > >>>(snip)> > >>> > >>>>BTW there's some good computers out on the market which do the job just > >>>>as fine as the Stinger, but cost a bit less. > >>> > >>> > >>>Sure there are, but they don't have that sexy cachet. > >> > >>There are ways to compensate for that... > > > > > > My point exactly. To give you this piece of information, without the rest of the course to make you aware of the caveats and why you would use different values, is dangerous. If you didn't understand Michael Wolf's explanation then I'm doubly worried and less inclined to explain in detail. If you want to know then do a nitrox course, otherwise forget it and leave the computer in 'air' mode. Sorry, Ron MacRae |
