3 pins interface from the cradle should sit on the water sensor of the
Stinger.

IIRC put the watch in the cradle and test it. Check with you HW
manager which COM port to use.

You misunderstood the instruction manual. It holds 36 hours worth of
data, the memory is life-time. When your computer has been diving more
than 36 hours, it will start overwritting the older dives.

Perhaps then there is something else amiss......

I made 3 dives on one day. Checked the log and they were registered as
D1 D2 and D3.

I made two more dives the next day. My log now contains a D3 from the
previous day and D1 and D2 from the 2nd day. I cannot seem to access
D1 and D2 from the previous day. I assumed that this was because more
than 36 hours had passed since the first set of dives. From what I
read in the instructions, I thought that was an odd way to design the
computer. Apparently, that is not the case.

Any suggestions as to what may be happening?

Answering my own post....

I went back and tried again. This time I do see data for *ALL* my
dives. Not sure why I didn't see it the other times. Seemed to me that
I got "end" when I tried to go back from D3 on the first day and then
got "end" again after the last dive for the second day (as would be
expected). This time, I see D1 thru D3 for the first day. So, no
problem there.

But I still can't get my computer to recognize the interface craddle.

Any new suggestions from anyone on this front?

It takes a while to get used to the interface, and how to scroll the
dives. The reason for the markings (again, see the manual) is that
suunto's will restart the dive counter if your no-fly time expires. For
instance, on the first day you make one shallow dive. You computer
will, say, tell you 17hours no-fly. Next day evening you dive and the
time has already expired. The evening dive will be marked as D1 again,
and some new no-fly time will kick in. Then you do a night-dive with
13h of no-fly remaining, and the night dive is written as D2. Now you
have two dives called D1 and one called D2. When you scroll, pay
attention to the date display which tells you which D1 you are looking at.

Chances are it's something to do with your PC, not the Suunto. Did
you verify that the COM port itself works? Like connect a modem or
something... then, as someone pointed out, do you have some PDA
application, or something else listening there? Have you configured the
Suunto software properly?

Please grab the manual, and retrace your steps to see if you got all
of the setup things right.
