Well, his name is Flame. He was probably not expecting kudos for his post.

Funny. I was going to say exactly the same thing in exactly the same words.

Study the material. It'll make you a real instructor instead of a
paper instructor. You might not kill someone that way.

It's not cheating to want to look at old exams, unless they recycle the same
questions. It's a good way to see what topics are considered most important,
and is one of the most effective ways of reinforcing topics you have just read.

It may indicate a lack of confidence though, which isn't so good for an instructor.

There is a sample exam in your Candidate workbook and you could also take
the DM exams again for the theory parts

Buy the Diving Knowledge Workbook. You should be able to answer the questions
if you really knew your stuff on your DM exam. All of the answers are in the
book with logical explainations for each. If you can answer everything in this
book and you truly know the material-rather than simply being "test savvy",
you'll pass with flying colors. Tests are tests...and the ones in the IE are
proctored exactly like the others you've taken through PADI, with the exception
of the standards exam, which is "open book". Now...go study.

Well, I've only read and taken the basic open water exam. Really, easy
stuff. How much more does someone really need to know to become an
instructor? Besides cpr and other things like that?

Don't worry about it. With your attitude you'll be an instructor by the
time you have 100 dives down to 40'.
