Just because you can't find it doesn't mean it doesn't exist! Lol It doesn't exist in Google, nor in any of the news servers I have access too (which includes Supernews, a pretty comprehensive service). Individual servers can carry local newsgroups, but these aren't part of the official Usenet hierarchy. My news server doesn't carry it either. |

It costs money for most companies to either subscribe to out-sourced servers or to maintain their own. My ISP uses newsfeeds.com which supposedly carries 100% of the newsgroups out there. Like I said, rec.scuba.marketplace exists but has only about a half dozen posts in the last six weeks, hence, the "for sale" posts here. Get this bullshit out of here. Advertising with scuba content is a helluva lot less offensive than all the non-scuba crap here. List the rest of yer inventory. (The band mask.... Hmmmmmm.....) |

Ya know...not everyone that casually visits a newsgroup is familiar with etiquette or specific "rules" in a particular group. I frequent the Harley group and they post the FAQs and posting guidelines weekly. People still hop on without buying the virtual drink, but it doesn't take long for them to catch on. Why? Because if it's a somewhat valid post, someone will respond but nudge them to read the FAQs with a well placed (and not rude) remark. We have enough issues as an industry and brother/sisterhood of divers without being exclusionary to those that reach out. In this particular case, it's not up to any of us to judge as to whether or not this woman's original post is a farce or valid. How about if we take it at face value, help her and her family and perhaps get a very good deal. For those that feel it's their place to play cyber-cop on this group, please consider what message you'd like the recipient (and the rest of us) to take from your comments. There is truly valuable information on this board and it comes from sharing, communicating and being inclusive. Not from driving people away, either directly or indirectly. I've seen the "comebacks" for those that have questioned such behavior, so feel free to underscore my point. Thanks for the opportunity to share my thoughts. bj chicago |
