It always seemed to me that this was a venue to sell equipment.

SBCGlobal does not carry a *.scuba.equipment.forsale group.
If one does not exist those who are against selling here should start one.

However, there IS a proper place for selling stuff.
rec.scuba.marketplace
Unfortunately, almost nobody goes there hence the postings here!

It doesn't exist in Google, nor in any of the news servers I have
access too (which includes Supernews, a pretty comprehensive service).
Individual servers can carry local newsgroups, but these aren't part of
the official Usenet hierarchy.

My news server doesn't carry it either.

Most servers won't because it is such a dead group. It costs
money for most companies to either subscribe to out-sourced
servers or to maintain their own. My ISP uses newsfeeds.com
which supposedly carries 100% of the newsgroups out there.
Like I said, rec.scuba.marketplace exists but has only about
a half dozen posts in the last six weeks, hence, the "for
sale" posts here.
