Huge Chinook? I thought it was the Apache's turn with you tonight.

BTW, the Santa Anas were blowing real hard here today.

Now don't start that crap. Soon someone will be telling me I have to get an
igloo or a teepee instead of a cabana.

Tough noogies.

But on a serious note, how does that affect the potential fire situation?

Uhhh... Let's light a match and find out?

Earthquakes, fires, mudslides... All you need are hurricanes and you'll have
it made, Greg...

The forecasts sound kind of ominous:

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/Sandiego/fcs....php?LAXFWFSGX

But the Santa Ana's haven't really started yet (Greg's local
observation notwithstanding), so overall it's not all that dry right
now. And since there's a lot less fuel this year (something about it
all burning up last year , I don't think it's nearly as big a danger
as it was last year.

Nice to hear some good news for a change.

The wind is really howling out here tonight. Stuff banging up against the
house and such. But it's a warm wind and after the last couple of weeks, I
can deal with that.

My observation was taken at the I-10/I-15 interchange, one of the windiest
spots in SoCal and is confirmed by the following.

SAN BERNARDINO AND RIVERSIDE COUNTY VALLEYS -THE INLAND EMPIRE CA-
INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...YUCAIPA...UPLAND...TEMECULA...
SAN BERNARDINO...RUBIDOUX...RIVERSIDE...RIALTO...REDLA NDS...
RANCHO CUCAMONGA...PERRIS...ONTARIO...NORCO...MORENO VALLEY...
MONTCLAIR...LAKE ELSINORE...HIGHLAND...HEMET...FONTANA...CORONA...
COLTON...CHINO HILLS...CHINO AND BANNING
934 PM PDT TUE SEP 21 2004

....WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 2 PM PDT WEDNESDAY...

AREAS OF NORTHEAST WINDS WILL INCREASE OVERNIGHT TO 20 TO 30 MPH
WITH GUSTS TO 45 MPH BELOW PASSES AND CANYONS. GUSTY NORTHEAST WINDS
WILL CONTINUE AT TIMES UNTIL EARLY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.

AREAS OF BLOWING DUST MAY LOCALLY REDUCE VISIBILITY TO NEAR ZERO AT
TIMES.

MOTORISTS IN HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR STRONG
GUSTY CROSSWINDS.

Oh, and lest you think these weren't Santa Ana winds, here's more:

"Santa Anas Stir Fears of Fire Across Southland"

"Santa Ana wind gusts of up to 60 mph swept through Southern California's
canyons and mountains Tuesday, prompting the National Weather Service to
issue a "red flag" warning and fire departments to bolster crews as they
braced for the beginning of the fall fire season."

So there.
