If you are fishing for food get an 8 - 10 foot pole spear with a "Hawaiian" tip on it. This is a three prong device. Get one with out barbs on it if possible, if not hammer and file them down. Don't keep the tips too sharp. The blunt tips seem to have much more shock power and very little less penetration than the sharp ones. The prongs spread out and hold quite well with no need for barbs. I used a six foot pole and wanted a longer one. The fish keep away from you far more than from the pole. I fed myself, wife, dog, and occasionally the resort where I lived with one for about a year while living in Baja. This was all done free diving. I'd buy one there. |

A speargun is fine in your carryon. You can bag even more fish with a few stick of dynamite but you have to put that in the overhead. Adam |

| Thanks to everyone for the good advice in your replies. I want to take one of these compressors to the Philippines, I live on th sea there. I will go there inDec. and come back to Tennessee in April. I will be looking for a speargun also. [ Fresh fish for supper ] I will go to the nearby diving shop and take the course or courses I need before I use the equipment. I dont know if I can take a spear gun in my checked in luggage on the airplane. I would like to find saltwater speargun that is easy to load. I,m 60 yr.s old. Any suggestions ? |
