The only dives I'm getting in when I'm in New Orleans are of the alcohol vending kind. I live an hour's drive from a few hour's boat ride to the finest diving in North America so I'm not desperate like y'all folk down under there who would drive 6 hours or 60 to dive in a hole. A month after I leave NO I'm diving the wild and mysterious island of Puerto Rico and in July, Cocos. Who needs swamps? |

If it wasn't for people like you (and maybe chilly) who are at the other end of the scale, I guess I'd have to expect to have my share of bad weather. > And now a tsunami. Could it get any worse? You could have been in Phuket at the time. |

The morning after > I left it went back to rain... Christmas Week was mostly horrible. My friend and I partied most of the week instead of diving. People were being driven over to the other side of the island to dive. However, the surface intervals were just horrible and everyone was grumbling and miserable, so I didn't feel too bad about missing out. On one relatively decent day, we took an island tour. On New Year's Eve, the weather improved and we had a couple of dives, took the zipline canopy tour and then partied our asses off until 7 in the morning. On New Year's Day, my friend left and took all the bad weather with her. The past week the weather was sublime. I dove my ass off after a couple of days rest required from the week of trying to keep up with my much younger friend. Unfortunately, the bad weather the week before had left the viz in pretty poor shape. Despite the shortage of diving during Christmas Week, my friend and I agreed that it was still one of the best holidays either one of us have ever had. My first week was grand and I got to spend some quality time with a rec.scuban friend . . .now a better friend. Then the second week with my young friend from New York (who I met 2 years ago in Belize), was grand and we too are much better friends now. The third week was just me on my own but by then, I knew many of the local people and so still really enjoyed myself. I can't wait to go back. Before I left for Roatan, many people tried to discourage me from staying at Westend. As it turned out, it was the right decision for me. Anyway, I just got home tonight and so will write more about the diving when I'm more rested. |

Well, considering I've seen that hole many times, including a dozen or so trips to the non-passable restriction, guess I drove for hours with an overnight stay just to visit & dive. Guess I won't get that desperate again. Curtis |

| I will be on Fantasy Island Roatan from Saturday Jan. 8 to Jan. 15. If anyone else is there at that time, perhaps we can get together and bend an elbow (sic). -- But then again, what do I know? Lou Vallone LouVallone@aol.com http://members.aol.com/LouVallone |

I'll be landing about an hour before you takeoff. I'd say hello, but I presume they'll have you safely locked up in the departure lounge. If you look out the window when they let us off the plane, I'll be the one with the pale, northeastern complexion. -- Steve The above can be construed as personal opinion in the absence of a reasonable belief that it was intended as a statement of fact. We'll be over at CocoView, so I don't think a drink token will help me, but thanks anyway. Funny you should offer to leave some good diving, too. I almost asked you not to use up all the viz. If you didn't see the post from chilly in the tsunami thread, she's in Roatan right now and complained about the lousy weather. If you and I are lucky, she'll be gracious enough to use up all of that before we get there. -- Steve The above can be construed as personal opinion in the absence of a reasonable belief that it was intended as a statement of fact.
