| If it's blue, it's probably silicone. You would also need to know the durometer rating (hardness), for which you need a durometer. McMaster-Carr has them. But this is one of those "if you need to ask, you shouldn't be messing about in there" questions. | Thanks Mr Tribolet, I'm starting to think you're right. With so much equipment out there using O-rings you'd think there would be an easier way to get them replaced. I've spoken to a couple scuba equipment repair technicians and they seem to be in the dark as much as any of us mortals. Thanks for the response. | I am trying to replace an o-ring in an underwater camera housing. The manufacturer is no help at all. I have found several O-ring suppliers on the internet, but they need technical specs to place an order. I can easily provide them with measurements, but I'm having trouble identifying the material of the o-ring. Can anyone tell me if the color of an o-ring denotes the material it is made of? The one I wish to replace is bright blue in color. Is there any other way for me to identify this O-ring? |
