It's got more similarities to scuba than you might initially think (see http://www.floridatoday.com/blogs/spacewalk012605/ for the entire blog) : Avoiding The Bends Leroy Chiao and Salizhan Sharipov now have completed breathing in a supply of pure oxygen, a procedure carried out to rid their bodies of nitrogen that could bubble up in their bloodstream and cause a painful or even deadly case of decompression sickness, known to SCUBA divers as "the bends."
