I've been servicing my 9 Apeks regs for a few years now and only once has a seat actually failed and the part NEEDING replacement. In fact sometimes the original nylon surface becomes 'paired' to the seat edge and a new seat needs time to 'bed in'. O rings needs regular replacement simply because they have a limited life, become deformed, dry & perished (especially when used with O2 and Nitrox). That and the cleaning & re-lubrication are the main benefits of the overhaul / service. |

The idea of annual service is to fix things before they fail, not push them to the point where they do. Apex is the only regulator company I know of that I've heard will provide parts to the public. Personally, I've been diving various SP regs for over twenty years and not one has ever taken it's annual sojourn to The Warranty Bench. They will visit a bench every two or three years depending on whether I get near enough to one to duck inside for an afternoon - the rest of the time they get all the TLC and other abuse I can dish out. Clearly, my regs and I wouldn't be able to get away this if we weren't so good at what we do - but we are. I like SP regs, I think they're excellent regs, but their warranty thing is a marketing scam that I ain't buying. I piss around with crap that shouldn't need pissing around with enough already, but my SP regs ain't on that list because I don't think they need to be. -- jer email reply - I am not a 'ten' |
