JW Fishers, Fishers and Garrett. The rec guys I know like the Garretts
because they have discriminators; the LE guys almost all use JW Fishers
(from Massachusetts or somewhere near there), which they say are more
sensitive but take more skill to operate. There is another company named
Fishers in CA, but I don't know anything about their stuff.

I've got a JW Fishers (Pulse 8X) and it's very simple to operate
effectively. The 9 page manual gives you all the info you need.

I don't know how it compares to other brands, but the unit is very
sensitive, rugged and reliable. It's a lot of fun to use underwater off
an old beach or pier, but as you said, lacks the ability to discrimate
precious from other metals.

Any Garretts users able to give a product report? I'm curious about the
effectiveness of the discrimination in reducing trash hits.
