| Thanks to everyone who replied I sent several emails to scubapro and never received a reply. I called the 1-800-scubapro number as suggested Talked to a rep at the company. I was told that they did not recommend doing anything until the battery was down to 20%. He said that at 41% battery left that the computer should continue to function for approximately 2 more years. I was told that the battery was NOT replaceable. I was told that: "Everybody thought that the battery in this unit was replaceable but it is not" I was also told that I could take the computer to a authorized retailer for an "upgrade trade-in". I personally know a diver who has had the battery replaced in the exact same computer about 2 years ago. However, I fully realize that it may have been exchanged for a refurbished one as mentioned in a previous post. Now according to the owners manual that came with the dive computer: and this is on page 109 of the Operating Manual Aladin Air X Nitrox September 1995, Copyright by Uwatec Switzerland "Take the dive computer or the transmitter to an authorized Uwatec dealer in order to change the batteries. The actual change of the batteries is made at the manufacturer or the importer. The computer is checked for its technical functioning at the same time. So not attempt to have the batteries changed by anyone other than an authorized dealer." Up until now I have been extremely satisfied with the Aladin computer. It developed a leak a few years ago. And was replaced by the manufacturer with no problem. However now it looks as if I will soon have a very expensive paperweight because I cannot have the battery replaced. When I purchased the computer I fully realized that the battery was not user replaceable and would be expensive to replace. But I never expected that I would not be able to have the battery replaced and that the manufacturer would stop servicing the unit. I will continue to try to remedy the situation with the manufacturer. If anybody has any suggestions please let me know. Thank You Mike Seeley mseeley@pol.net "mseeley" <mseeley@worldnet.att.net> wrote in message news:rJ70e.164900$Th1.42092@bgtnsc04-news.ops.worldnet.att.net... > I have an Aladin NitrOX wrist mount air-integrated hoseless computer. > Does anybody have any experience with getting the battery replaced? > Is there a way I can get it done from the manufacturer without going through > a dive shop? > The dive shop that I purchased the computer from no longer carries > Aladin-Scubapro and cannot send it in to get the battery replaced. > Thanks > Mike Seeley > mseeley@pol.net > > |

When I was dealing with them I typicaly talked to Javier. He was pretty descent to me. What it sounds like is that they are trying to push the new models cause people like me quit buying their products after they failed to issue a recall with one of their previous computers that lead to several injuries and deaths. This has been discussed quite heavily on this news group and there is a website on this issue that was set up by one of the lawyers for the plaintifs. This seems to be the the push by the owners Johnson Outdoors (which is a private company owned by the originals prinipals of Johnson & Johnson. Allen |

| I purchased an Aladin pro nitrox in '94 and when I took it to a dealer last year to have the battery replaced I was told that Uwatec no longer supported the old Aladin product but that I was welcome buy a replacement unit (Aladin air z nitrox) at cost - $340. -- Caudrillier ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Caudrillier's Profile: http://forums.deeperblue.net/member....fo&userid=5020 View this thread: http://forums.deeperblue.net/showthr...threadid=59885 ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

The MSRP for the wrist only is $650. (2005 Catalog). The Air Z is compatible with the Data TRAK Memo Mouse PC Interface. That's not too bad of a price to upgrade if you're satisfied with what the unit can do. |

| I understand it's a good price but I am not too crazy about the method. The old computer was fine and I would have rather spend $100 on replacing the battery. BTW - I was unable to synch the transmitter with the new computer. Has anyone experienced the same problem? Is there a battery in the transmitter as well? -- Caudrillier ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Caudrillier's Profile: http://forums.deeperblue.net/member....fo&userid=5020 View this thread: http://forums.deeperblue.net/showthr...threadid=59885 ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

I've not done it for a while and don't remember the instructions but found it frustrating. I tried syncing without the instructions on several occasions and could not do it. You need to be quick to set the unit when the signal is recognized. Yes, there is a battery in the transmitter as well. |
