I had a Scan 4 that began malfunctioning and no one that I contacted
offered to look at it. I can't remember exactly what they said, but
basically I was told that it was too old to fix.

Another route to consider is trading it in on a new one. Oceanic, and I
think others, offer a discount if you trade in a working or non-working
computer by any manufacturer for one of theirs.
