Default Waterproof watch

I'm looking for a watch with an alarm function that will survive diving.
Normally I just use my cellphone as a watch, but that doesn't work
when there is no service.

Doesn't need to be a dive watch, per se. Casio G-Shock, Timex Ironman,
Freestyle all show up as possibilities. Anyone have other options and
opinions about price, functionality and style?

I've used a G-Shock for years. I've never tried to use any of the
buttons underwater, but it doesn't look like it would be easy to do
while wearing gloves. You're not trying to time stops to the second, are
you?

Check the depth rating. Even simple arm movements can increase the
pressure on a watch so just because you follow the rules and dive to 133
feet doesn't mean that you shouldn't look for a watch rated to 200 or
even 300 feet. I have a Timex Ironman, but I don't trust the rubber
around the buttons any more. I bought a Nike with really big numbers.
I'm not sure if it is sold anymore. I've got a dive computer, but
having a backup timer/watch is always a good idea.

Both work fine as an alarm.

Thank you, but no. I'm looking for something to wear on land, but don't
have to take off to dive, so I'm definitely not looking for something
bungied up. I'm looking for a watch, that can survive diving, not a
dive watch that I can wear on land.

BTW, I looked for that damn Vyper cable and can't find mine either. If
it turns up I'll let you know.

Naw, I mean a storebought velcro band with a tensioner for wet suit
expansion.

http://www.joediveramerica.com/scuba...s/VS-1101.html

Look okay unless you sell real estate.

Will do your wrist, and will -easily- do a drysuit.

I wear it daily, and on every dive, never flooded one.

This is the spendy real estate version, which I wear on special occasions:

http://www.joediveramerica.com/scuba...s/WW-0411.html

I have my computer on this, but it isn't as adjustable as the other.

More secure though, considering the cost difference between the two.

Thanks!

Ironmans, BTW, come in 100 and 200 meter designs (or maybe 50 and 100, I
disremember), BTW, read good when shopping.

I wear it daily, and on every dive, never flooded one.

I've found one or two that have been submerged though the winter, albeit
in 15 ft of water.

And kept on ticking, or electroning, or whatever they do.

Never once in 8 years have I changed a battery in one.

As with most technology, it does infrared widgetry computer sex things
that I have no need to comprehend, and has alarms (several different ones)
and different time zones and that crap.

The stock velcro band won't fit around my wrist, and obviously doesn't
fasten well, which is why I keep finding them up in The Sinks.

I use also a G-Shock, a GW-700DE ( solar, time radio-controlled,
water-resist 20 bar).
Big, heavy, you can use it as a hammer !
Tested at 45m ( 150 feet), no problem.
My son uses my previous 10 years old Casio ( not a G-Shock, water-resist
20 bars), without problems

Recommended

Have a good diving

I live the in Caribbean 6+ months out out of the year and found that the
displays on the Casio and Freestyle turned black when they were in the sun
making it hard/impossible to read the display. When the watches cooled down
you could read them again. The Timex Ironman doesn't have that problem and
it's amazingly easy to change the settings on. I hate watches where you
almost have to get a manual out to change the time, etc...

Interesting. I have a solar charging, self setting G shock that works well
for me. I've not had a problem with viewing it in sunlight. At night, it's
backlight is better than any other watch I own. Mine's black rubber and not
much to look at, but Casio offers similar watches in stainless with gold
trim.

I second the Casio G shock recommendation. I have one I bought at Target for $40 and
have taken it diving and on all my travels and the thing works great. I have the old
fashioned one with plain digits.
