A variety of companies make longer and shorter hoses. You should be able to
find what you want at any shop that supports technical diving.

The general impression I get is that some/many people are so turned off
by George Irvine's attitude that they won't even look at some of the
things in DIR which they might otherwise find to be good.

George's book is (A) poorly written, (B) mostly attitude, (C) not really
a good, understandable explaination of DIR (in the sections where he does
actually try to describe/explain it), and, to be sure, (D) way overpriced.

Other opinions will vary; I hope mine is clear.

Probably some, but not all. The most interesting thing about the debates of
old is how many people were called stupid because they found something to
like in the DIR concepts. For the most part, it wasn't George doing the
criticizing, but damn, when he did, you knew you'd been criticized.

George wrote a book?

George is an exceptional diver, but not an exceptional communicator.

I'd have to say that depends on his mood. I came across a site recently
that had collected a bunch of his more extensive posts. I found them to
be exceptionally clear. They assume an understanding of tech diving, of
course, but given that, they really filled in some gaps for me.
