"Roomy" is good, IMHO. Are you talking about THICK socks that can keep
you warm in really cold water?

If you're going to do any diving in water colder than 40 degrees, I
think your shop gave you good advice, namely to get Rockboots a little
larger than your shoe size.

I know of one diver who gets cold feet because he got Rockboots in his
shoe size and they fit too snugly when he wears a second set of thick
socks. He wishes he got one size larger than his shoe size.

My Rockboots are 11's, one size larger than my size 10 shoe size, and I
find they are nice and warm, if laced loosely, allowing more air around
my foot. I use a very thick wool sock PLUS a Weezle bootie sock, and
they are still roomy, with no constriction of my foot. They are loose
enough that my foot actually slips around a little when finning.

In the past, I would snug up the laces, but found my feet got cold
after an hour or so in sub-40 degree water. With loose lacing, I have
no problem, even during colder, longer dives.

In water above 55 degrees, I'll go with one sock and have a bit of a
sloppy fit, but some of that can be reduced by snugging up the lacing.

I'm also looking for Rockboots, since I want to replace the Turbosoles
on my old spare TLS 350 drysuit. The best price I've seen is online at
DiveUS.com, touted as the highest volume reseller of DUI. Here's a link
to their webpage for the Rockboots at $71.95 (not including S&H). I
haven't seen anything lower. I haven't done any business with them yet.

Also, Inland Divers, in Leominster, MA, quoted me a price of $75 awhile
back, so they may be a possibility for you, if you get down their way.

Another option is to cut out a piece pile carpet that fits the inside just
right. I did that for mine when I didn't dive in really cold water. Good
luck.

My shoe size is around an 8, a 9 for the boots would be adequate. I've tried
on 9s with two pairs of socks and still have plenty of room. If I lace them
loosely, I don't feel secure in the fins. I don't want the slipping that you
seem to be comfortable with.

You're right. I think Rockboots one size larger than shoe size is good
and two sizes larger is too much. The latter would be looser than I
like, too.

Now I can see why you don't want to reward your shop with an order for
replacement Rockboots. They should have known better than to suggest
going up more than one size.

If I was on a budget for rock boots replacement, I'd try out a pair of
converse tennis/basketball shoes. It I could still get a pair of U.S.
Keds I'd use those. They come in all sorts of colors these days.
Why not try out those newer hard soled boots that looks like a high top
running shoe? I think Mobby's makes them; costs around the same as
rock boots $70-90.
