Aluminum backplate, small wing, one piece harness. Very simple, highly
effective.

My travel setup uses the travel plate shown on this page:

http://oxycheq.com/backplates.html

instead of an Al plate. The only problem that I've noticed is the need
to shift a bit of weight onto the left side of the weightbelt

Yes, this is the obvious, best solution.
And yet, in the best tradition of REC.SCUBA, the discussion continues.

But no quick-releases, they're not designed for use with single tanks
without an adapter, some find the harness uncomfortable, crotch straps are
passe, individualism is greatly honored in our society.

Maybe obviously best for you, but obviously not best for all.
