Default Re: Prescription Dive Mask Questions

A friend of mine could not see close or far away without his glasses so he
had to have a prescription lenses made and put into the mask. I can not
remember if had to buy a new mask or just added to the one he had and loved.
As far as bifocal lenses, I think you should break out the old trusty mask
and inspect it, then try it on in water and see if it magnify's enough
without doing anything to it. Go from there.

Get a new one. Even if the silicone has life left it's probably at 50%.
No sense in spending bigger bucks on the custom lenses to put in a old
mask.

I used these folks, they're great.

I don't use the mask anymore since switching to contacts. Much easier
and i can see while i'm on the tender, just out of the water, etc.

A good fit is one of the most important considerations when selecting a
mask. It sounds as if you have one that fits the bill. However, as
others have mentioned, the silicone might not be in the best of shape
after storage.

If your current mask is a 2 lens affair then there is a good chance that
you can get it glazed to your prescription. Note that the cost of the
mask small when considering having one glazed with prescription lenses.
It might be worth trying to find replace the mask you have with a new
one of the same model in your prescription and keeping the old one as a
spare.

As for the need for bifocal lenses. The magnifying effect of a flat
lense in contact with water often means that people with less than
perfect short range vision can do without additional correction. So if
yours isn't that bad then it shouldn't be a problem.

Hope this is useful

Default Prescription Dive Mask Questions

I have not dove in a few years due to bad sinus. Used to dive with
contacts, now wear glasses. I am going to order a prescription mask for
snokeling.

I am blind with out my glasses for distance But do I have to have
bifocal lenses if my vision is not that bad closeup?

Should I buy a new mask or have lense put into the mask I have and
love? Wondering if the silicon would have degraded from being stored in
a hot attic for the last 2 years
