What light do you use for your regular diving? I have a 35W halogen;
just a regular albeit pretty bright dive light that I have sucessfully
used to shoot video at night. I hand hold it, no fancy arms. I did
find that it was a little too narrow in beam and a bit bright so I zip
tied a couple of layers of opaque plastic over the front to form a
defuser. I used a cut up milk bottle, works fine. This is what I used
while working as the videographer on a liveaboard.

Might hold you over until you decide what you need, assuming you have a
regular light that is capable. Worth a try though.

I have 2 10w HIDs. I diffused both with similar methods you mentioned, I
still find the videos to be too dark and the area where the light beam is
too bright.
I am interested in permamnent arms ans good lights. Any suggestions?

Sounds like it isn't diffused enough. I found that I needed 2 layers of
plastic in order to give a nice even light. Video cameras are pretty
good at picking up low light levels but their range is not so hot, so if
you have a hot spot it will burn out and the rest will look dark.
Give it a try.

You might also want to have a look over at http://www.digitaldiver.net
they have a forum dedicated to underwater video with plenty of people
who use all sorts of setups.

Personally I like the look of the Greenforce video lights. The system
is modular so you can add different battery capacities, light heads,
etc. I use a Greenforce as my primary dive light.
