| David, I just paid $1,034, including shipping and insurance for a D9 with sender unit on eBay. Unit was officially used but had not been in the water. Buying this way meant no warranty as Suunto warranties are only valid for the initial purchaser. Suunto won't let their dealers advertise any price more than 10% below list, so on-line competition is nonexistant. $1,597.50 was the best price I found for a unit with warranty. The difference in price made it worth gamblilng on not having a warranty — at least to me. Hope this helps. | If the manufacturer is fixing prices, sounds like reason enough to look elsewhere. Sony used to do this in the UK, people voted from with their money, Sony don't do it any more. Dealers here do de facto seem to advertise well below 10% under list, though the best deals do seem reluctant to name a price up front. I guess Suunto want to prevent a real price war at all costs. The list price here is EUR1499 for the D9 with transmitter; many dealers have it on offer for typically EUR1099, 1150 or 1250. Several on eBay are selling it at below 1000, some below 900. I have actually also just bought one today from a dealer with a retail shop and an eBay business. He had "Buy It Now or Best Offer" with the "Buy it Now" price at EUR 899, with 2-year manufacturers guarantee. I offered EUR853 and he accepted immediately, so I guess maybe I could have got it for a bit less! That's a bit over what you paid, but a pretty good price for Germany I would say. David |
