| I've just taken delivery of my PT-033 housing for my Olympus stylus 720SW. Its a neat unit and the price wasnt too bad either. I have a Nikon SB105 undertwater flashgun which has a slave mode as the housing doesnt have a TTL cord port. I have been playing around this morning (above water) and find that the SB105 triggers prefectly when the camera flash fires........BUT........ when I have the combination of the camera flash + the nikon I *expected* that the pictures might be over-exposed unitl I got the settings worked out but the opposite is happening! If the external slave flash tiggers the picture is too dark........why.....? Any ideas why having two flashes go off simulataneously could cause the picture to darken? Any tips for using this combination with a slave flash? Thanks Al. |

| Your Olympus probably does have a preflash (or preflashes). I have a Stylus 500 that has 4 preflashes, if I remember correctly. Light is faster than you think- by the time the real flash on the camera fires and the image is rendered, the light from the SB105 is long gone. I have a Sea & Sea SL960D that allows you to set the strobe to ignore the preflashes, and it fires when the camera flash does. Not sure if there is a way around this with the 105. That may be causing the problem. One way around it is to set the camera on manual. You might have to test it a bit to find the right settings, but most cameras turn off the pre-flash when set to manual. gc |
