| Hi, i'm planing a cave diving trip in the beginning of march (Week 10 & 11). At the moment i don't know if i should go to Florida or to Mexiko. I would prefer Fl, but some people told me that the cave conditions are in this time critical and only few caves are diveable. Can anybody tell me, what dive condition i can (normally) expect at beginning of march in the Florida caves. thanks and greetings from Switzerland Urs |

There are people on that forum who are in the caves every day. Conditions in the Suwanee River karst (where almost all of the "public" cave diving sites are) are excellent right now, but March is an iffy month. If it rains a lot, all of the caves either become undivable or have really bad vis. Last year there was 10" of rain in March, and every system, even Ginnie, was blown out for a while. You could not even get close to the caves. There was a drought for 4 years before last year, so the short term historical data looks good, but if you go back far enough you will see that March can be bad, or it can be good traveling from Europe, I would choose Mexico in March. If you do decide on Florida, we have just found out that the until now highly recommended High Springs Country Inn has been sold to "an outfit related to the Cadillac" (the dump across the road), whom in the first few days of new ownership have not exactly endeared themselves to the cave diving community. al |
