Bali - June

Friends,
We are 2 experienced divers going to Bali in early June. Any
recommendations on where and with whom to do so outstanding diving? Any
advise on whether to bring regs and BCDs? Your advise greatly appreciated.

Owned and run by british girl, Annabelle we dived with them and found them
well organised, There is some good diving, their site will tell you what
you want to know, she can organise accomodation too, i had a week in a
lovely quiet hotel on Kuta Beach before the bomb for £125 B+B (for both of
us)

isn't that a contradiction in terms?

How can you have a quite hotel in Kuta when the place is filled with noisy
Aussies? I took one look at those cheap joints and immediately told my
driver to head for Sanur.

Ah, but there are plenty of noisy Aussies in Sanur too!
We'll be diving with THREE of those next week!

ALL joints in Bali are cheap, relatively speaking. For $70 USD per
night (plus some Hyatt points for upgrade), I'll be staying in a
suite in the Hyatt in Sanur.

Not only that, the suite has 100 sq meters of floor space, nearly
1,100 sq.ft, the size of a small house.

I'll know what the diving is like by April 27, because we'll have
done 10 dives at sites considered among the "best" in Bali.

No......
The Hotel was small, maybe 30 rooms max, lovely garden and lawns with
pool.
There were a handful of guests, and it was quiet and peaceful.
Our diving up at Tulumben was done from the guest house on the pebble
beach, the bedroom was very basic but we washed and ate ok and the diving
was ok too.
We did 5 or 6 dives while in Bali and enjoyed our stay.

Better known as "Snore". I know Aussies that buy the cheap packages
that put you in Sanur....they all stay in Kuta in the 10 to 25$
(US)/night hotels. Lots of great (and quiet) hotels near the bomb sight
or the beach.

Oh yes forgot to add, I always take my own BCD and regs, there are some good
and bad lots over there, I just feel better diving with my own stuff.

I went on the live-aboard "M/Y Pelagian" while there. We brought
regs, bcs, wetsuits, etc... the usual that you might bring on a
live-aboard. You can look at their website at :

The 3 clipped quotes were by, respectively, Feeesh the ranking amateur,
MSD; Bjorn, Master Scuba Diving Instructor; and Strike, not sure of his
cert/title, but something like the highest professional rank (IDS
Traniner?) in Aus, scuba mag editor, etc., etc.

BIDP is Bali International Diving Professional.

All three of us dived with BIDP last week. I got back from Bali today.

We did 10 dives in that area. The current can pick up without warning
from slow to hyper-speed that makes the fast drifts in Barracuda (Cozumel)
or Blue Corner (Palau) seem like slow kiddy rides. :) That was perhaps
one reason why on one day, we had four DMs in our boat of 6 divers of
considerable drift diving experience.

It's almost as swift as some of the PASS dives in Fakarava of the
Tuamotu islands of French Polynesia, where the speeds are known to
be capable of reaching 10-12 knots.

Tabu Aba (Elephant Rock) is known for the frequent appearance of mola
molas; and Manta Point for mantas. We were not disappointed that on
the two dives on one day, one (or two) mola molas and 5 to 6 mantas
showed up on those dives.
