| Diving in Kos (and probably the rest of Greece) is heavily regulated by the Government. When I went, my hotel had its own PADI dive centre but they were forced to use a "local" dive skipper and boat to comply with the law. This boat itself was restricted to diving a 1km stretch of coastline. In short, OK for a couple of dips with standard Med diving but don't plan to do hoards.... HTH Garry. |

Went with Calypso in Agios Gordis on the west coast, very nice people, very pretty village with very very good food! CAS -- Temperature @ Stoney? Dived Zante a couple of years ago - great drop offs and arches, caves, but sod all fish! Water not as warm as you'd think either and I was in a full wet suit. Most diving off the main (kids 18-25) beach, cant remember name of it now. Used a Dutch outfit, very laid back and let us do our own thing - but that's the Dutch for you. |

Fantastic group of people! Professional, safety-concious, thorough but making it so much fun too! going back this october. variety of dive-sites available including a wreck, one end of which lies in 60m so something for everyone. Manos do it. put 'padi corfu' into google and you'll get their web-site (calypso's, not manos) |

| Just got back from Kefalonia. I was there at the back end of May 2004. Dived with Aquatic World in Agia Efimia. There's not a great deal to see there, a few Octupus, Moray eels, very shy fish, odd bit of greek pottery on the bottom. Sea temp was 17C at depth. Used my own dry suit. Travelling around the Island, a British outfit in Fiscardo at the north end of the island may have had more things to do, like diving caves etc. There is an undergroung lake at Melisani cave, that you might be able to dive. Very clear water with excellent viz, up to 30mtr depth, although I don't think there's anything of interest in it! The Island itself is a bit scarce in antiquities, as there was an earthquake in 1953 that flattened the island! Hope that helps ColinM "F9" <spiritus@thefreeinternet.co.uk> wrote in message news:<40c58cd7$0$541$ed2619ec@ptn-nntp-reader02.plus.net>... > "Gaz" <gaz212@hotmail.com> wrote in message > news:hA2xc.264$Gp2.2335765@news-text.cableinet.net... > > anyone dived in corfu/kos/zante or kefalonia? > > > > Is any of the above recommended? > > Dived Zante a couple of years ago - great drop offs and arches, caves, but > sod all fish! Dived zakynthos last year (and im back there this year). All in all its a little bit sterile. Firstly wreck diving is not allowed under their antiquities laws and neither is night diving. The place i dived with limited everyone to 30m and no deco but that maybe a dive centre policy as opposed to greek law. There is no nitrox on the island that im aware of. The dives were ok, visibility usually 30m+ and water temp on surface about 28c dropping to 25c or so below a thermocline at roughly 16m. Diving were the usual reef, some walls, a popular arch dive and there are some caves which i didnt get to see. Most of the diving is off the south west coast near Keri and the cliffs there. As a result most dive operations are based in Keri,Lagana and Kalamaki. Not masses of fish life there, especially lacking is some of the bigger stuff. Depending on what you're looking for you might be pleased with it or you may get bored after a few dives as it looks pretty much the same. Hope this helps a bit. |
