I dived there back in 1999, so may be a little outdated. At that time there
were three dive operations, all based in Rhodes Harbour. Each dive boat
carried 60+ 'divers', and the only dive site is Kalathea Bay - about the
size of Kimmeridge. They need air traffic control or rather dive traffic
control!

I used two of the operations on different days, and found 'Dive Med' to be
the better (an't rmember the first one, mediocrity strikes!

In fairness, there was talk at the time of openiong up further sites round
the coast, so maybe the situation has changed.

Other than that, I loved the Island, and found it a great family holiday
spot. Beaches are superb, food and wine (then) was very reasonable.

There's still only one place you can dive legally, and that's Kalithea Bay -
which is very nice. It's a lovely spot for diving, snorkelling and
sunbathing, with a small beach, an impressive Roman spa and a small bar, all
surrounded by lots of funky black volcanic rock. You can either get down
there by bus from Rhodes city, or if you go down to the waterfront in the
city, you can book a dive with one of the operators there, I think they're
all PADI. They'll take the boat round the coast, so you get to see the city
from another angle as well. My gf had a try dive with Waterhoppers, who were
very competent and professional.

I've only snorkelled there, I saw lot's of small pretty fish including pipe
and glass fish in the first couple of metres, and then quite a few black
sponges in the 5m and beyond range. Also saw a couple of much larger, shy
pipe fish at about 10m. I Reckon there's enough there to keep you
entertained for at least 2 dives.

Have a great holiday!

Jeff.

Default anyone dived in rhodes

Anyone dived in Rhodes? If so how did you find it.

Looking to book a week away (not diving, but would be nice to fit in a dive
whilst I am there). As always, Greece hasnt yet come up to speed with diving
(it is banned by the government in many islands) but Rhodes is one of the
few, which allows limited diving.
