| Hi, Planning a trip to Roatan. Will be my first time visting. I'm looking at CocoView Resort, Bay Islands Beach Resort and a few others. Question. Is the shore diving at BIBR as good as CocoView's shore diving? Everyone seems to be chatting about CocoView and how good their shore diving is. BIBR is $150.00 less for the week but I want great shore diving. Thank you! Eric |

They have Spooky Channel which is a long cut that isn't too deep. CCV has the CCV WAll, Newmans Wall, the Prince Albert Wreck and a great shallow snorkel area surrounding the Tutle nursery key. I like CCV better but then I know the folks there too and prefer that coast over the south coast. BIBR is smaller though and many people like that itimacy. They are also better for families with children in tow (that may be good or bad depending on your own needs). Ted runs a nice place and it is slightly more upscale than CCV. CCV is there for diving. If you have energy to burn and want dancing, etc.. then you aren't diving enough. Everyone seems to be chatting about CocoView and how good their > shore diving is. That should tell you something. Want to make upthat $150 difference? get your air through priceline -specify nonstop from Houston on Saturday or Miami on Sunday and put in a bid of $175. The weekend days are the only nonstop flights from the US. Expect either TACA or Continental to counter with an offer under $325, which is generally lower than the normal fare. But first check Taca.com to see if they have any internet rates (I've snagged flights for $150 rt on the TACA site. Have a great time. |

| CCV and Fantasy Island share the same channel of water for shore diving. The are directly across from each other. The wreck of the Prince Albert sits in the middle of the down channel down around 80 ft. or so and sits upright so you can see the top of it at around 45. The CCV wall is excellent diving and of course, is on the CCV side of the channel, however, accessible from Fantasy Island both as a shore dive and a "drop-off" boat dive. That is..you can request a drop-off when the dive boat is coming in from a regularly scheduled dive. They will drop you off on the wall and then you dive your way along the wall and across the channel to the Fantasy Island gazebo where a dive boat will pick you up. I've stayed at Fantasy for 3 dive vacations in the last 4 yrs. I think it's just a great all around place. Makes you feel pampered on land and the diving is excellent. CCV and Fantasy are on the south side of the island - wall diving. West end and north side are more like big mountains underwater. Depends what you like to see. The walls are awesome. Fantasy does one day of diving down in West end to give you a feel of what the diving is like there. Matter of choice. |

The swim from CCV, literaly from the foot of your doorstep, is an aquarium from the moment you slip below the surface. FIBR is twice the distance from the shore dive Gazebo to the wreck (already quite a long way from your room or dive op) causing a long traverse swim via steel cable through murky waters caused by FIBR beach dredging. FIBR will indeed schlepp your gear over to the Gazebo or take you by pram work boat for a back roll over the Prince Albert Wreck, but it isn't the same dive. You would have to have dived from both resorts to know. You can do this from CocoView 24/7 at your pick of the moment. This is of interest to many as they shore dive several times during the day, possibly even 2 night dives. Your choice of time diving the PA Wreck is also of note- there can be 200+ viz at the peak of high tide. doc. |

Hi Diver . . . I went to a lot of trouble to register and hopefully save you some. There is no shore diving at BIBR. They drop you off on the way back from a dive and leave you to do spooky channel and swim back. That's it. Also the food sucks and the sand fleas will kill you. Good luck. |

It's is a good ways off to the cut from shore. Frankly, I found the 3 long dives each day plenty, but if you really want to add on more, it may not cut it. >Also the food sucks and the sand fleas will kill you. I've only read the accounts of the cafeteria style food of Cocoview - I know it was better than that. Sand flies - don't forget that spray or you'll be hating it.
