Default Roatan Luggage Problems!

Ciao all,

A little note of caution for those of you travelling to Roatan.

My Sis. who runs the Subway Water Sports Dive shop in Roatan. Had all her
luggage cut open by U.S. customs on the Miami to Honduras leg of her
flight.

All her soft luggage was slit open & ruined and roughly taped up. Various
items went missing mostly sweets (candy) and chocolate other people.

U.S. customs do not even acknowledge her letters.

She travels this route 2 or 3 time a year and this is the fist time this
has happened.

Beware!

It might be advisable to take some precautions & check your Insurance
cover.

Then there are witnesses? Why would her luggage even be near US customs when flying
*out* of Miami?

The above can be construed as personal opinion in the absence of a reasonable
belief that it was intended as a statement of fact.

It's doubtful the dreaded food sniffing beagle is only picking on those
people traveling to Roatan, if it was the beagle that instigated the
intrusion in the first place.

Since my last piece of hard luggage was crunched up by the baggage
handling people, I've switched to soft cases that I "lock" with a
colored zip lock tie. Security or whomever can clip it off and look
inside without resorting to damage and if thieves want to get in, those
tiny padlocks that came with the luggage aren't much of a hindrance
anyways. If the zip tie is missing when I get my bag off the carousel,
I know to check my stuff before I leave the airport.

Indeed, US customs will do you and your bags together.

US Security on the other hand will rifle your bags unbeknownto you until you
get them back - I had one of mine checked (outbound from Orlando) and I got
it back, just slightly less well packed and with a blue federal cable tie
instead of the bog-standard white ones I had used.

US Security state quite clearly on all literature that they will not break
bags and if they have to because they are suspicious they give you full
details of how to get them replaced. This information was even included in
mine and they only destroyed a cable-tie!

I think you have been stung by the world-famous Miami bag-mafia.

I suspect their being told it was US customs was due to our very own baggage
handlers, the end of a shift, and "For f**ks sake, I can't be arsed with
*another* one of these forms..."

Claim it on your holiday insurance - thats what its there for. If you feel
particularly public spirited, drop the Miami PD a line with your flight
details for their records.

Shouldn't that be "another reason not to fly through the US"?

The Untied States - Home of Bush the unelected, discoverer of
terrorism.

By the majority of the Electoral College per our constitution.
For a couple weeks before the election, it looked like Al Gore might
win the EC and not the popular vote. At that time, he was quoted as
being comfortable with that since that is what the Constitution
provided for.

Apparently only in Democratically-controlled counties.

No the election was fair and free, he won under the rules set forth in
the constitution. It has been that way here since the earliest of
elections. Why would need some ineffective, insignigicant meddlers here
to monitior the freeest and fairest election in the world?

Maybe if the UN served some purpose other than to promote some small
country's political agenda they would be held in higher esteem as it
once did.

I had my luggage damaged on the Honduras to Miami leg of a flight on
American Airlines. I doubt it was customs. More likely the baggage
handlers, who held our luggage up long enough that by the time we went
through customs, we mised our connecting flight. I no longer go
through Miami when coming from or returning to Honduras.
