| Trip: Alor, August 2-10, Vessel: MV PutriPapua Komodo, August 10-17 Vessel: MV TemuKira Grand Komodo Dives & Tours http://www.komodoalordive.com/ Our trip started with your staff transporting us from our Bali hotel to the airport where we met the rest of our dive group. I knew our photo/ video toys would cause us to be over weight and appreciate your staff working things out with the airline. We made the 1 ½ hour flight to Maumere on Flores Island where we were once again met by Komodo Tours to help us with transport to the boat. Once at the dock I was pleased to see the boat looked well laid out to live and dive from for the week. We were off in short order. And after a boat orientation we were in the water. The diving in the Alor area was great. I loved the remoteness of the area and dive sites. I have dove Cozumel Mexico but its currants are tame compared to the currents we encountered during our two weeks of diving. The dive masters know the dive sites well and provided excellent briefings. They knew where the up / down currents might be encountered and told us how to handle them. My wife asked me what I liked best about the dive trip and I can not say it was one thing but multiple things I enjoyed. Once I surfaced near a school on Alor Island just after it let out to the hops and hollers of waving school children. For the first time I saw dogtooth tuna , schools of sweetlips, my first Wobbegong shark, sea apples , most every color of soft coral, sponges, the famed Komodo Dragon and White Breasted Sea Eagles. One morning at Cannibal Rock, as I drank coffee and scanned the beach, I saw five monkeys, a wild pig, several deer then three Komodo Dragons. All before breakfast. Other dive sites included sea snakes, mantas, white tip reef sharks, Giant Groupers, Giant Triggerfish, Giant travally and the list goes on and on. It was all their. This was indeed a trip not to be missed. We did 51 dives in 15 days. My wife and I appreciate the hard working crews of both the MV PutriPapua and the MV Temukira. They keep us safe and well feed. I miss seeing the smiling face of Yogi and the beautiful singing of Jerry. I would encourage anyone contemplating a trip to bring an orange signal sausage, Dive alert horn and a strobe for the night dives. Take care to be in good physical condition and get ready to dive your butt off. Next on our agenda is to dive the Papua RajaAmpat coupled with a return to the Komodo area. Thank you all for an awesome dive trip. Your operation is well organized and staffed with competent hard working people. It was a pleasure to dive with you.
