Default Diving in Belitung, Sumatra

Hi all,

I'm planning to go to the island Belitung for one week, for relaxing and diving. However, I couldn't find any sites in the Internet about dive centres and/or dive resorts there. Does anyone know if there are any dive facilities at all??
I appreciate any help!

In Sumatra? I am not very familiar with that place. I thought that Sumatra is a dry barren strip of land, if that's the case I don't think there would be dive spots there personally. But if I'm mistaken maybe you can try checking for nearer countries to it that offers diving so you can go there.

Thanx for your reply, scubafreak! In the meantime, I found out that there are indeed no scuba diving facilities on Belitung, even the snorkeling close to the island is disappointing due to dynamite fishing..... But it's supposed to be a beautiful island with its white beaches, plus not overcrowded in terms of tourists.
Anyhow, I changed my plans and booked today my ticket to Banda Aceh from where I'll go by ferry to Pulau Weh, an island West of Banda Aceh (so it also belongs to Sumatra). Pulau Weh was recommended to me by a guy who was my dive buddy in Komodo three months ago. He is dive instructor himself, has logged more than 4000 dives (in fact, he stopped logging long time ago) and said he was really impressed. Countdown is running, next Friday I'll be there, for 10 days.
However, it's not true that Sumatra is a "barren strip of land". I haven't had the chance to go there as a tourist yet but have been to Riau, West and North Sumatra for work related issues, and I found it so beautiful, especially in Sumatra Barat (West). Said that, I also saw the deforestation, like in Riau.... I guess that's what you mean!? You're also right when you say that Sumatra is not really famous for diving as are other places in Indonesia, like Manado or so, I know... But less crowded, that's the good thing about it, right?
If you're interested, I'll let you know how it was when I'm back.
