Firstly.... Wasn't I glad to stay in and watch the match!!! You couldn't
write stuff like that and if you did people would say that it would be "too
far fetched" !! I was jumping and howling through the house! What a night!!
Secondly... Sharky, I'm sad to say that conditions in the bay are still
pretty grim. It still very silty thus visibility is poor to say the least.
Torches on for the whole dive with max depth 13m. Winds today are pretty
strong westerlys, so we only did a sheltered shore dive. There was a small
craft warning today so no-one would've used any boats. Long term forecasts
are for unsettled weather including easterly winds which are the worst for
churning up the sediment thus hampering visibility even further.
So in short..... Don't bother bringing your gear. Sorry for the bad news.
Euge.

Default Diving in Dublin Bay

Will be off for a weekend in Dublin soon, is it worth taking my gear?
There are a couple of operators in Dublin, so its available - but is it
worth doing?

The weather here recently and even today has been unfavourable for diving
and as such the visibility at the moment is pretty bad. It's very silty and
you would definitely need a torch for day time diving. Anything past 20m and
consider it a night dive!. We usually dive off Dalkey Island and The Muglins
next to it, so my experiences are with this area only but I can imagine it's
pretty similar North Dublin also.
If you have time, make the effort and "Go West", the whole Atlantic Coast is
great for diving with greater landscapes, wildlife, variety and great
visibility.
Sorry for the bad news.

I'd agree with all that. I live in Dublin but do my diving exclusively
on the
West/South West coast of Ireland. I tried some diving out of Dun
Laoghaire a
couple of times last year and wasn't very impressed: poor viz, poor
conditions
and bad (tide) planning by the operator. I wouldn't be bothered
repeating the
experience.

Dublin diving can be like that, equally it can be spectacular. Getting the
tides right is crutial. There are some great wreck dives in Dublim Bay,
including the GuideMeII. There is also lots of life to see. A good operator
is also very important, one who knows what he is at. Dublin Bay diving is
not for everyone but can be very rewarding. It is true that the west coast
offers better opportunities, but some of us have to make do with what we
have.

I second that completely. Good diving is possible but given the recent
weather we've had there'd be no point in Sharky lugging his gear over from
U.K. Even today we have a small craft warning from Met Eireann.. :(

Don't know what to do now, I'm coming over for work and the boat back is
4pm Sat, perfect for a couple of dives on Sat morning - else I'd be
kicking my heels all day.
How long a period of good weather does it take the viz to settle down,
I'm not coming till a week today.

I'll be out in the "soup" at the weekend and I'll fill you in on what the
conditions are like. I know some guys from my club are going out tonight,
(I'm not going on account of the Liverpool match ;) so I'll know what to
expect for the weekend.
To be honest with you, unless we have some very favourable winds , you'll be
doing well to see a noticeable improvement in conditions in the bay by the
time you get over here. I will let you know what vis is like after the
weekend.
