Diving in Italy

My husband and I are visiting the in-laws in Italy in August and were
wondering if we could escape for a couple of days to get some bottom
time. We'll be based in Pescara (opposite Rome on the Adriatic side)
but are willing to travel to reach good sites.

I've searched the group but there only seem to be questions rather
than answers :)

I've heard Liguria or Sorrento are good, any other suggestions?

We're looking more on the mainland, rather than Sardinia or Sicily.

Also any personal recommendations of Dive centres would be
appreciated.

The nearest place are Tremiti Islands, connected from Termoli, near Pescara.

From Pescara you would reach more quickly Croatia (by boat) than Sorrento.

Maratea and Camerota in Basilicata are fantastic (as is the Amalfi
coast)

diving there? Do you know of any good centres?

In Tremiti islands Tremiti Diving Center,
In Croatia you can find dive centers in every island I don't know them
since I use to go by boat.
If you like wreck diving go to Vis, if you prefere caves Korcula is good.
Everywhere the visibility is more than 20 m.

Thanks for the suggestion. We've been looking into Craotia and it
looks really good. The Tremiti islands also look beautiful.

There's also a dive centre in Piran, Slovenia. Didn't get around to diving
with them though.

Of course, but from Pescara to Pirano they have to drive some 700 km.
And the only good dive nearby is on the HMT Coriolanus.

Just out of curiousity are you planning to take your gear or to rent?

We'll be renting all gear, apart from the normal fins, mask and snorkel.
