I'm just back from Negril. The diving was nice, but there's indeed not that
much 'large' life around, though the turtles and rays were nice...

The reefs are beautifull and when you can appreciate lots of small fish
then I would say the diving's pretty good. I certainly didn't regret going
out to dive (the fact that the watertemp was 29° C also helped).

My favorite dive site was 'Throne Room'.

Where'd you stay? What'd you think? Have you written / posted a trip
report? If so, I'd love to read it.

Hey Michael... I loved the Throne Room too. When we went down to it,
there was a nice nurse shark there waiting for us. The blue sponges were
spectacular. I did the 'plane deep' thing and a few other dives. The
best was a drift dive we did. We had 5 large queen angels keep us company.
Who did you dive with? I dove with Negril Scuba Centre, but heard that
Karen gave up the business. I stayed at the Negril Treehouse on 7mile beach.

No hurries. I'm just excited that someone else visited Jamaica. That means
I'm not the only rube.

There actually was a nurse shark waiting for us at the Throne Room, but it
was a youngster (not more than a baby really).

I stayed at the Riu Negril (Bloody Bay) and dove with Scuba Caribe.

Trip report will follow.

Hey! Watch that! I went there also. It was a family trip. But since
there is water, my essential dive gear went, and I made reservations for
diving. I met a lot of great people that way, both on the dive trips and
back at the hotel. People see me lugging dive gear always ask questions.

I had a great time in Jamaica. I didn't go to dive (but I did dive while I
was there). It's the only diving I've done outside of my local "quarry".
Hopefully, that'll change before too long. If you wanna see my trip report,
go to http://s92136212.onlinehome.us/Trip%...rip_report.htm.

You're not the only rube. I dove off of Jamaica twice back in the
late 70's and early 80's. I stayed in Ochos Rios. Don't ask me where
because my log book is in the attic somewhere... and it wouldn't
pertain to present day diving operations anyhow. The diving was ok...
no big stuff, no sharks, mostly just reef vegetation. We did Dunn's
River Falls as a sideline to diving and enjoyed it. Also we saw the
cove where they filmed the James Bond movie "Live and Let Die." The
cove is much smaller in 'real life' than it looks in the movie. The
purple fans were huge...absolutely fantastic from what I remember.
